Bazzill Basics Poster Board: DIY Photo Booth!

Today I am sharing THE quickest and easiest DIY project that would be awesome for ANY occasion! With it being Australia Day yesterday, I wanted to grab some props and take some photos of the kids as we were hanging out in the backyard on a hot Aussie afternoon! And how fun to have an oversize vintage-style frame set up with the occasion written right on it!

You can see just how easy it was to create using the new Poster Board from Bazzill Basics (it’s THE perfect size) and the Template Studio system from We R Memory Keepers on the Bazzill Basics blog here.

As a finishing touch, I used a black pen to write on “Australia Day 2016″.  I poked tiny holes in the top of the frame to thread fishing line through so I could hang it up outside. Here’s one more photo of my cheeky 4-year-old!

 

The possibilities are endless! I’m already thinking of how I could decorate one for my daughter’s birthday! What about back-to-school, Christmas, graduations or any celebration really? I think that anything to encourage us to take more photos is a very good thing!

Pink Paislee 2016: C'est La Vie!

What a whirlwind couple of months it has been! But now we are past the halfway mark in January, I've recovered from my jet lag from a trip to the USA, and I was CRAVING some creative time with the newest collection from Pink Paisee, C'est La Vie! So what do I do when I have only little pockets of time to create? I make cards! Here we go!

The colours in this collection are so fresh! And lots of white also which makes me happy! As I was looking through all the pieces in the ephemera pack, I immediately grabbed a couple of the frames to create shakers with. 

Lots of layering of the absolutely gorgeous patterned papers! And you can see the little mix of sequins I've added to the shaker. But I didn't stop there, I used a similar design to create a second card below!

I added a few more sequins to the second shaker card and it looks much more full! New rule: add more sequins always! 

I'm officially in love with this collection. I'm not kidding - you're going to see a LOT more of it! 

And by the way, I'm so excited to announce that I'm staying on with Pink Paislee in 2016! The team is FULL of talented and inspiring people and I am beyond thrilled and honoured! Let's just say that 2016 will be an AMAZING year!

Pink Paislee: Yuletide Cards

I'm on a bit of a cardmaking roll lately! So it seems fitting that I make a start to making some Christmas cards! I'm using the newest collection from Pink Paislee called 'Yuletide' which is (of course) their Christmas collection for this year and it's just beautiful! 

For my first card I decided on using the 6x6" paper pad to create a patchwork background with the beautiful patterned papers. I started by cutting a heap of triangles from a few of the patterned papers.

I then arranged them over my white cardstock background. I admit - I take the longer route of arranging them the way I like and then going ahead and adhering each of them down. 

Once I had completed my background, I added a few embellishments on the top (mostly from the ephemera pack) and a few splatters of mist to finish it off!

Oh - I might have forgotten to mention also that before adhering each piece of the "patchwork" background, I distressed the edges of each of them for a bit more texture. You would be surprised at how quick the process really is!

For my second card, I thought I'd have a go at creating an easel card - with the idea that the recipient could display it on a shelf etc. It's really just the case of one extra fold line on your base card! When you score and fold your top-folding card (in the centre at usual) simply score and fold one of the flaps halfway down too! Here's a photo to give you more of an idea:

For the card front I added one of the small envelopes from the collection. It is actually the perfect size for popping in a gift card!

Bazzill Basics: Embossing Possibilities!

Bazzill Basics has released some fun new styles of cardstock including Ombre, Marble and Plastic Embossing Paper! Read more about them on the Bazzill blog here. 

I had the opportunity to play with the new plastic embossing paper and boy, it embosses beautifully!

Of course my first creation had to be with the gorgeous Sea Glass color! I had one of the Next Level embossing folders to try from We R Memory Keepers and the depth and texture it creates, especially with the Plastic Paper, is gorgeous! After I ran it through my Evolution, I didn't need to add too many more details as I wanted the texture to shine!

I added a strip of Gold Foil cardstock to the right hand edge as well as a couple of shorter, banner ended strips underneath a simple sentiment. Here's a close up photo so you can see the dimension from the embossed Plastic Paper.

For my second card, I chose the fabulous, bright Buttercup Plastic Paper and gathered a few other bright supplies that I thought would make for a fun card. While looking through my embossing folders, I couldn't go past the cute pineapple design from Pink Paislee to be teamed with that gorgeous yellow!

To mix it up a bit and show you more possibilities, after I embossed the yellow, I trimmed it into a large banner shape and used my sewing machine to add a couple of lines of stitches across the top to attach it.

I must admit, I tried a few combinations of things before settling on the final design for the sentiment. I used some gold letter stickers for the word 'you' and added a couple of bright word stickers (by Heidi Swapp) to add my other words.

A die cut arrow from the Gold Foil cardstock, a few sequins scattered and a strip of black and white paper over on the right completed the card and I love it! In fact, I already know who I'm going to give this one too!

I really hope you get your hands on some of this new Plastic Embossing Paper! If you're a fan of adding texture to backgrounds and elements with embossing folders, you'll love it for sure!

Pink Paislee: Card Week!

Hello! All this week on the Pink Paislee blog we are showcasing CARDS! 

Now don't get me wrong - I’m a scrapbooker first and foremost but every now and then I do like to use my scrapbooking supplies to create cards. It’s creative fun, as I like to start without a plan and see what different ideas I can come up with using my scrapbooking supplies! 

Here’s a look at a couple of cards I created using the Memorandum collection:

A perfect example: for my first card, I saw the gorgeous Memorandum photo frames and immediately though they would be perfect for a shaker card!

For my second card I decided to translate one of my favourite scrapbooking techniques to a card: backing the negative of die cut pieces with patterned paper!

I just love stretching those supplies and hopefully I’ve given you a couple of simple card ideas today to get you thinking of different ways to use your scrapbooking supplies!

Bazzill Basics: Grateful Layout

Hello! Today I'm sharing a special layout I created for Bazzill Basics.This week we are celebrating fall along with giving thanks. I combined a few of my favourite things to create a layout documenting my thanks for my children’s wonderful Grandma with a fall inspired colour scheme! 

Here is a look at my layout:

After deciding on a photo of my children with their Grandma and converting it to black and white, I pulled out the current fall collection from Pink Paislee, Cedar Lane, and got to matching some Bazzill Basics cardstock colors to the colors in this collection. 

Design-wise, I decided on going with a sunburst effect with the different colored cardstock. I’ve created layouts with a sunburst background before, but this time I only wanted the feature on the top ½ of the layout. I used a template to trace and cut my “rays” from the different colors, adhered them to my layout and then machine stitched along the edges. 

For my journaling (which you'll HAVE to go to the Bazzill Blog to find out my secret for printing on journaling directly onto a layout WITHOUT a wide format printer . . . ) I typed out some of the reasons why we are so grateful/thankful for our Grandma. This layout will be filed away as one of those special ones that I hope the kids will look at one day and smile and reminisce. 

I really want to encourage you all to think about a special person or relationship that you are thankful for, find a photo and document it! I guarantee it will become one of your favourite layouts!

Pink Paislee: Be"Witch"ing Halloween Decor!

Each year Halloween is gaining more and more momentum here in Australia! And each year my collection of Halloween decor is growing! While browsing through the glass jars and bottles in my local dollar store, I came across a little bell jar and the idea to create a little "spooky" something to pop in there for Halloween came to me.

I went through my Pink Paislee patterned paper stash to find some that would be Halloween-worthy. I settled upon a classic black and white stripe from Bella Rouge and set about to make my miniature witch hat. I did a simple search online for a pattern to follow.

When it came to embellishing, I added a fun green fringe along the base (using this paper from the Cedar Lane collection). I die cut the word 'happy' from gold cardstock and added a gold foiled label from Memorandum with 'Halloween' typed on it. A couple of gold puffy sticker stars (also from Memorandum) and a black fabric flower (Bella Rouge) finished it off nicely!

 

When I placed it inside my jar, I realized it needed a few spiders to make it extra creepy . . . and once they were glued on, it was finished!

This goes to show that you are NOT limited when you are creating and you can pull bits and pieces from almost ANY collection to suit halloween projects!

Video: 5 Minute Layout For Bazzill Basics

I'm back with another process video up on my You Tube channel! 

I was set the challenge of creating a layout in 5 minutes and I was panicked! I am a sloooow scrapper - everything must be thought out and I don't adhere anything until I've finished almost the entire page! And I will also admit that this layout did take me a bit longer than 5 minutes, but DEFINITELY a lot quicker than usual AND I've got some tips to share that will help you to scrap faster as well!

I created a layout of my daughter all dressed up for Halloween last year:

So my biggest tips to try creating a page in 5 minutes are:

1. Do any work with wet media (such as paint, paste etc) first so you can work on other things while it's drying.
2. Use cardstock scraps to add layers behind photos to save time cutting down full sheets. 
3. Think ahead and spend little pockets of time before creating to pull some embellishments from your stash that might work and place into a bowl. Then when you get time to scrap, you don't have to go hunting through your whole stash.
4. Use a quick drying adhesive such as the Sticky Thumb Cordless Hot Glue Gun.

Pink Paislee: Memorandum Layout

This was one of those layouts where I knew what story I wanted to tell and what supplies I wanted to use but I had no idea what the page was going to look like. 

I've been wanting to document Noah at four, and how I think age four is one of my favorite ages - he has really matured and come into his own! I grabbed my Pink Paislee Memorandum collection and started playing. And I'm really happy with the end result!

 

 

I cut my large title out of my background cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo and a simple block font. I knew I wanted to back my title letters in different papers from the collection. I also hand-stitched around each of the letters to give it extra definition and texture - it's one of my favourite techniques at the moment!

 

 

With my title sorted I then worked on adding layers behind my photo. I added layers of patterned paper as well as a mini file folder directly behind my photo. I also tucked in a couple of pieces of washi tape and some stickers and created a little cluster on the top left of the photo with a label, die cut moustache and shaped paperclip.

Inspired by one of the patterned papers from the collection, I cut some simple triangles out and scattered them down the right side of the layout. This was my way of balancing the colours also.

 

 

A few more finishing touches such as journaling and black ink splatters . . . I also added an extra piece of journaling that I printed and tucked into the file folder behind the photo! I love adding more words that way!

Pink Paislee Cedar Lane Inspiration!

I just had to have a play with the Cedar Lane collection (new from Pink Paislee). For a quick and easy project, I decided to have fun altering this letter that I had previously purchased from Typo.

 

 

It was a super simply project! I started by tracing the letter onto some of the patterned paper (I did half/half with two patterns). I have gone for a softer color scheme. Then I created two little embellishment clusters. The one at the top is one of the puffy stickers layered over some gold thread and onto a couple of small banners cut from more patterned papers.

The bottom cluster is made up of a couple of larger flower die cuts from the Ephemera pack along with the word "grateful". The 'G' is actually for 'Gail' but could also be for 'grateful' I decided.

This now sits proudly on top of a shelf in my scrap space with a couple of other collected and made items, all with a similar aqua color scheme.
